Have you not wondered how the knowledge of God came to be? How the scriptures are so powerful and yet God didn’t pen it down Himself? A material as sacred as the Holy Scriptures came by the inspiration of God but was written by men. God did not throw down the Bible from heaven; He instead inspired men to write it. The knowledge about God and the promise made to mankind has been passed down from people to people. Moses, the first man to write the scriptures, told us about God’s plan from the beginning yet, he was not the first man on the earth. There have been generations before him nevertheless, he knew about God. This is because he was told about God. The sooner you realize how important man is to God, the more blessed you are. People are God’s treasure on the earth, so God uses them.
God owns the earth, and He willed it to mankind. The book of Psalms 115:16 reads “The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD’S: but the earth hath he given to the children of men” (see also Psalms 89:11, 102:25). If God would do anything on earth, man would always be involved. In God’s promise to redeem mankind, He called Abraham out of an idolatrous nation to walk before Him because Abraham believed. Through this man’s lineage, the Messiah would come and all the nations of the earth would be blessed (see Genesis 22:18, Acts 3:25, Galatians 3:16). God kept His promise, walked with men after men, resounded His promise to save men from sin by the mouth of His prophets. In spite of their failures and shortcomings, God used them. When the fullness of time came, God didn’t send His son straight out of the sky, but through childbirth. God is a God of process; He made the natural world and so He uses it also. God made flesh, came as a babe, through the womb of a woman. The angel who visited Mary said “The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God” (Luke 1:35). Do you see how important man is to God?
When Jesus walked the earth to carry out God’s plan, He never worked alone. He chose men whom He taught and breathed upon to continue His work and cause the gospel to have wider reach on the earth. God made flesh, used men to carry out His plan. He inspired the apostles to write the Epistles which for us today, is a revelation of the mystery which is Genesis to Malachi (Ephesians 3:4-6). Nobody would ever have believed that God could use a man like Paul, a persecutor of believers, but God had better plans for him and used him mightily (see Acts 9:12-17, Acts 9:27).
The Bible is replete with numerous examples of men who came into supernatural experiences, received miracles, provisions etc. because of other men. Let’s see a few examples: Joshua became full of wisdom to lead the people of Israel because God told Moses to lay hands on him (Deuteronomy 34:9). David did not become a self acclaimed king – Samuel the prophet anointed him king. Who knows what would have become the fate of that widow of Zarephath if Elijah didn’t come into the picture? (1 Kings 17:8-9) Philip in the book of Acts moved from becoming just a deacon who served tables to an evangelist who worked miracles. Why? Because the apostles laid hands on him (Acts 6:1-6, Acts 8:5-8). Paul told Timothy to not neglect the gift given him by the laying on of hands (1 Timothy 4:4). We will be wise by choosing not to despise the instrumentality of men in seeing the will of God come to pass in our lives and in all the earth.
